The Institute for Advanced Consciousness Studies (IACS) is an independent 501(c)(3) research lab founded in 2019 in Santa Monica that investigates altered consciousness states using neuromodulation, neurofeedback, and immersive technology including darkness retreats. As a newer organization with limited track record, its technology-forward approach is innovative but remains unproven at scale compared to longer-established research programs.
